PKR’s latest MTT innovation

by admin on Aug.23, 2008, under news

Stay alive to treble your money, then go for the win!

Following the huge success of our Double Thru and Winner Takes All STTs, the new fusion of these two formats, ‘Break Thru’ tourneys at pkr, offers you the chance to treble your buyin, with a larger first prize for one lucky winner.

For every four entrants, one cash prize will be on offer. That prize will always be at least treble the buy-in, so survival becomes more important than ever. The twist, however, comes after the bubble is burst…

Once the money has been reached, it’s every man for himself in an all-out race for the finishing line. The remaining prize money yet to be distributed (about 25% of the pool) will be awarded to the eventual winner, so crippling your stack in order to reach the money is fine, but it’ll reduce your chances of the bonus cash for the win!

In terms of strategy, I have no doubt there will be different camps. The fact that one quarter of the field will cash for exactly the same amount lends the format a satellite feel, with the initial period skewed in favour of the satellite specialists (and Double Thru pros!). But what of the all-out MTT sharks?

With the bubble approaching, a player who accumulated chips early can really bully those looking to survive. When the bubble bursts, he’s likely to have many of the chips in play, with a real advanatage on the run-in to the victory and a tasty bonus payout.

Whatever your preferred style of play, you’ll find an edge in Break Thru’s I’m sure, so head to the MTT lobby right now and take your seat. I’ll follow the progress of the opposing styles with great interest as you acclimatise and adapt to this fascinating new format.

Break Thru’s run daily at 13:20, 20:20, 02:15 and 05:15 GMT, with buy-ins ranging from $5 - $20.
